Sicherheitsventil

a safety valve which freeflows when the pressure exceeds. Is used on regulators of upstream-design.

SCUBA

Akronym für “Self contained underwater breathing apparatus”, d.h. unabhängiges Unterwasseratemgerät. Umfasst in der weiten Auslegung sämtliche von der Oberfläche unabhängigen Tauchgeräte, wird in der Regel aber nur für Presslufttauchgeräte im Sporttaucherbereich eingesetzt.

Self contained underwater breathing apparatus. The common american name for aqualungs. Although it could be used for any surface-independent diving apparatus, it is used for compressed air regulators only.

Second Stage

Zweite Stufe

When the pressure reduction is done in 2 steps, the second stage reduces the low pressure from about 120 psi down to ambient pressure. In a singlehose reg, it is the mouthheld stage.

Service is recommended on every diving item within regular distance (time/use). Service should be done by trained technicians only.

Sicherheitsventil

Überdruckventil. Wird bei jedem System benötigt, das kein Downstream-Ventil enthält (Upstream-regler, Trocki, Jacket), um eine Explosion des Systems zu verhindern.

Silikonfett/Silikonöl

Schmiermittel für O-Ringe u.ä. Bitte beachten: Dichtmaterialien aus Viton würden mit handelsüblichem Silikonfett aufquellen, daher bei solchen Dichtmaterialien nur das vom Hersteller empfohlene Schmiermittel verwenden.

Silicon fat is used as a grease for O-Rings etc. Be aware not to use silicone fat on Viton parts as these parts would swell. Only use the grease that is recommended by the manufacturer.

A regulator with a LP-Hose between first and second stage. First stage is attached to the tank, second stage is held by the mouth (mouthpiece). Due to it´s construction there is no problem with the position of the reg. Is sometimes called a split stage.

Singlestage regulator

A regulator in which the pressure is reduced withing one stage from highpressure to ambient pressure. Usually only found on doublehose regs.

Sinterfilter

Filter an Flaschenventilen und in 1. Stufen. Wird aus Bronze, Kunststoff oder Keramik gefertigt. Die Sinterfilter sind ein neuralgischer Punkt eines Systems, da sie - wenn sie Ihren Zweck erfüllen - ausfiltern und damit über kurz oder lang verstopfen. Sind daher unbedingt von Zeit zu Zeit zu überprüfen und zu ersetzen. Sinterfilter sollen aus der Atemluft Verunreinigungen oder Grobteilchen (Sand, Rost) ausfiltern um den Taucher und den Regler zu schützen.

Filter, made of brass, plastik or ceramic. Always a problematic part as it will close within the time if works properly. They have to be inspected at regular intervals and exchanged on every service

Air supplied to a diver direct from the surface via a hose. The first stage is on the surface, air is delivered at low pressure. Commonly named hookah or Narghile

T-Stück

Adapter, um 2 Anschlüsse an einem vorhandenen Anschluss anzuschliessen. Wird am Flaschenanschluss und auch an Mitteldruckanschlüssen verwendet.

Adaptor to attach 2 attachments on one availlable port. Is used on Tank connections and on LP-Ports.

Talkum

Pflegemittel für Gummiteile und Gleitmittel für Manschetten. Wird von Wasser abgewaschen. Achtung: nur Talkum verwenden, das nicht Atemgefährlich ist.

Chalk

Teflon

Polytetrafluoräthylen(PTFE) Hochbeständiger Kunststoff, der zu Dicht- und Gleitzwecken eingesetzt wird. Anwendung in Automaten zu Eisschutzzwecken (TIS bei Scubapro) und als Dichtsitz.

High resistable sythetic material that is used for sealings and float purposes. Is also used to prevent getting ice on springs (named TIS on Scubapro regs) and for the retainer.

Tilt-valve

Upstream-ventil, nicht sehr leistungsfähig. Wenn eine zweite Stufe so ein Ventil hat, ist ein Sicherheitsventil obligatorisch

A simple mechanical valve separating high-pressure from low-pressure air. Seals against the pressure (upstream) and therefore needs a separate safety relief valve
